my bike hasn't been started since november as it doesn't get used over the winter ive been told to start it and let it run until the fan kicks in is this right will it do any damage ?

If it has plenty healthy oil and the coolant system is full then it will be fine...how long it takes the fan to kick depends on the temperature your bike is sitting in....so for me 5 minutes of running would be fine regardless if the fan kicked in or not.

I'd leave it until you actually want to ride it somewhere.  It will be fine.

Same. Keep it on an Optimate and start it again to ride in the Spring. At least it would have had time to warm to the ambient Spring temp rather than being started just to tick over in very cold Winter weather.

Thanks for the replies...... bike is kept on the optimate wasn't sure whether it was necessary to start the bike periodically if it wasn't being used for a couple of months.
