So the R1 sale proved to be unnecessary.....

What's the wind protection like on the S1000R? (now I'm starting to let the Tuono rev a bit, I'm getting hammered by the wind at  - hmmmm - interesting speeds....)

MOzZereLLa

Not great apparently. Will tell you in about a week or so.

Apparently the MT10is superb for wind protection!
Significantly faster than you.....

Standard small screen it's crap...as you would expect...I have a MRA Double Bubble screen and it's good for high speed runs. Tried an XR today and wind protection wasn't what you would think. Cars are better. 😉

Early write ups said the same about R....the MT10 will be as shit as any naked.

tucola

I thought the XR was pretty good today wind-protection-wise.

I don't mind ugly bikes but there are limits...........

It was okay...just not great...I was getting a bit of buffeting...tried screen up and down...I did enter some three figure speeds to be fair.

tucola

Funny that both of us were out on an XR today!

I was really impressed with that engine.

Really fast.

Suddenly realised the Triumph Tiger 800 is pedestrian...

Wish I'd tested one of these before I bought it...

Would be a crazy move financially to change it after only 8 months, but I'm thinking about it!

Alzo

I had email from local dealer offering...so took it as one does...great machine...but the R I have is a Sportsbike with straight bars...and as much as I try I'm not ready to give that style of bike up...Maybe in three years...but right now the aggressive nature of the R suits.

tucola

I largely agree with that and if it was just for fun the S1000R would be fine.

But I need a bike for the daily commute year-round on SE England rush hour motorway and through Central London and the XR would make more sense for that, while still being stupidly and unnecessarily fast.

I was quite impressed with it.

Alzo

I find myself saying this a lot...purely because it's true..."there isn't a bad bike out there...all as quick as us mere mortals need"...I like the planted feel from the front of the XR...despite being taller with more travel it still inspired great confidence....and you're 100% correct...it would be a Hyper commuter.

S1000XR - But what about those much fabled bar vibes??

Yip...between 4-5k a definite vibe...not as unbearable as reports would suggest in my opinion...but that's an hours test ride...maybe a longer period would have me tolerating...or loathing...it did demonstrate to me how smooth the same engine is on my R.

tucola

Hadn't particularly noticed unreasonable vibes on the test ride.

Then again, you don't notice such things when you're just hooning around for an hour or so...

Something I'd have to look into should I decide to progress this.

How're you getting on with the GS?

Chojin

The GS is almost my perfect motorcycle. At 125bhp it lacks just a *little* bit of power, but the way it delivers it is nice. The comfort is second to none and I love the fact it is a real do it all machine.
I could sit on it all day and not get tired - sounds cliché but it really is true!

Saying that, would love a go on an Africa Twin :)
