I use the AA and they've always been great (i've had to call them out a few times).

I cover myself rather than the vehicle, so any car i'm in, or bike i'm on, regardless of if i'm pillion or not, is covered. Think it's about 15 quid a month and that covers home start and recovery all the way home regardless of where you are in the UK. You can get it for about a fiver a month if you're not bothered about home start, or they take you to the nearest garage rather than home

I've used the AA before. Joined when I broke down at the side of the road so it was VERY expensive. Took a while to get home as, despite me telling them it was an engine seizure I still had to wait for the first guy with a van to turn up, assess it was actually a seized engine and report back. I had to wait for a transporter to move the bike part of the way from Oxfordshire to London. Then my bike had to be swapped to another transporter to go into London because the first one wouldn't. And each change-over meant another wait. Got home at about 1:30am after a 7pm breakdown.

Last year I had Axa Assistance - UK and EU Breakdown Recovery including Home Start as a £64.99 add-on to my insurance. I've cancelled that with my renewal this year. I didn't have to use them so I can't comment on that aspect.

I'm tempted to try this lot this year. Recommended by Which? I don't know how relevant Which? are any more but it's better than nothing. And cheap. Has anybody used them? I don't do a lot of miles on my bike, and rarely out of London these days.
