My current after market exhaust has no drain hole to let any moisture escape. It it normal to have a drain hole or is it common to leave it sealed and rely on heat to eventually dry out the packing?

Carbon_ZX6R

don't think my akrapovic systems have a drain hole?

At the risk of showing my ignorance I've just checked, 2 akra's, 1 arrow, 2 MHP and 1 leovince .... No drain holes on any of them - in fact never heard of such a thing.

As you've noticed a water drain hole is on the standard can but the after market ones don't - it's nothing to worry about :)

My after market can has no drain hole. I had noise tested the bike after getting it up to 90degC water temp and when I took the can apart to replace the packing I found the old packing stuff was pretty soggy and wet. It hasnt been out in the rain or washed lately, so got to think whether maybe a small drain would help it stay a bit drier.
Will probably leave it as it is, but thought I'd ask if anyone knew any more about it.

I really wouldn't wanna go about drilling it...

So here is the stock exhaust off the vfr, maybe the offer market ones don't bother with a drain as they can be repacked more easily.

does it have a plug or a bold etc to go in that? or is it open all the time?

could be because the standard VFR exhausts are mild steel (which rusts and therefore rots away)  whereas after market tend the be Stainless Steel which don't rust.

J model ZX6R and my blade had it on the standard can too!

Most standard cans have them.  My Street Triple ones used to drip rusty water on cold mornings
