Had the cheapies on the gixer and they was fine, however on my daughters cbr with abs they made the front brake have a very grabby action, either on or off, changed back to original lever and the brakes were back to normal..

Just shows we all like different things. I've had ASV's, CRG's, Titax and Pazzo's on various bikes - won't touch the cheap copies but that's me - and the Pazzo's were imho the lowest quality of those 4 brands. I'd only buy CRG's and ASV's again - the newer RS2 version of the CRG's are nice.

I wouldn't normally touch the cheap ones either regardless of quality as im abit of a snob when it comes to things like that but as there going on a bike I will shortly be selling cant warrant £160 on levers

Did I ever tell you about the time this happened:

While I was moving my bike around the garage the night before a track day?

I'm sure I did...... anyway, cheap leavers can fuck off.

They look nothing like the pazzo look-alikes I've been using for years.
Those look like chatty oem copies, cheap cast rubbish.

You won't find that to be the case with billet levers. The difference between 6061 T6 aluminium and cast aluminium is a world apart.. the difference between bamboo and balsa wood (figuratively speaking).

If you see the description 6061 T6, then you can take it as read that it is going to be very tough. The MC would bend long before these knock off levers.

that's what they are..... the perils of buying a used bike I guess.

after this episode, we made a point of changing levers on any bike we bought.

OEM levers are cast though, I'd be happy to bet that they all come out of the same factory, or at the very least are made with the same grade of material, and cast using the same methods.

Heat treatment of the metals either in billet form, post machining or pre cast components is essential to give the correct grain structure in the metals (a bit like creating the fibres in bamboo to give toughness). The grade of ally 6061 is much weaker if it doesn't go through the tempering (ageing) process (the T6 bit), In respect to producing billet (machine stock) for machining from solid block, this Tempering is achieved either by sticking in an oven again and controlling the rate of cooling or even extruding at a given speed and running through a water curtain or using big fans at a given point down the roller table (to save the extra process once more) These processes are ISO controlled ...even in China and big money goes into the process of producing these (aerospace) grades of ally. Either cheap knock off or genuine pazzo, the metal is the same stuff if stated as so. A metalurgist would be able to figure it out fairly quickly either way.

don't know how they can sell them that cheap and make a profit unless the likes of pazzos profit margin is like 1200%

Most of the CNC machines are made in Taiwan and China now so they don't need to have these shipped from the far side of the world with all the import taxes and stuff.
Machine tool cutters and carbide cutting tips are being made in China so they have cheap resources for these, the raw materials for the billet works out to a few pence as that is pretty much the same anywhere as a commodity value as does energy costs, and then it falls to labour rates. We have minimum wage, a CNC setter/operator is on anything from £10-£20 PH here, probably on 50p -£1 PH there. Labour makes up the most significant part of manufacturing and you only need trained monkeys to load a CNC machine once it is set up.

whoopee

Ash is spot on.
The main reason for the massively lower cost of the Chinese copy Pazzos is that their labour rates are so much lower - rather than the levers being of any really noticeable lower quality.
