thank you foo on a serious note aslong as shes a healthy and happy baby and as least like her mother as possible I will be a happy man

its just something we spoke about when she found out she was pregnant only thinking at kid lvl sort of 80cc level just wondered what was about and if anyone had raced as a child and or had there children race , and I was hoping that if she gets into bike racing she wont notice boys for a bit or atleast not have time for them

she will probably want a pony anyway either way im sure she will cost me a bloody fortune and be a pain in the bum just like her mother but like her mother will probably have the same cheeky smile and be able to get around me no problem....

My dad has always been into bikes and it's all his fault they are my passion too..
I used to ride pillion as soon as I could touch the pegs. He also taught me to ride one as soon as I could keep it upright. I remember him teaching me in a motox bike. He used to have to hold the bike up when I started and I'd have to stop next to him so he could catch re bike as it was WAY to big for me..

That said, he came to donington to watch me race in 2006, stayed for half the day and then announced he couldn't watch me anymore and went home. So be careful what you wish for! He hated me racing and used to panic when I did. I was an adult at the time too... Being a parent myself I can't begin I imagine what it would be like to watch one of my daughters racing - im hoping ballet will be their chosen hobby.

you have made me think twice foo you really have I suffered some horrific injury's back in my youth from racing (actually ended it) and I cant imagine seeing that happen to my daughter she's not even here yet and just the thought makes me want to cry , the missus wants her to , possibly because she never got to (thank god as she is lethal) but it makes me a hypocrite if I don't let her(im no longer intending on pushing her in the direction) but at the same time I could always try bribing her with a pony

completely agree with you if she horse rides she will wear full leathers spine protector neck brace and a dam good helmet!! on a serious note I don't know why horse riders don't use spine protectors

They do. This is my eldest going over a fairly substantial jump made from telegraph poles when she was 15 or 16 on a cross country course. There is no give whatsoever in that.

The air bag jackets were developed for horseriders, and are now moving in to motorcycling. It saved this rider from either paralysis or death in this instance. It was this type of accident specifically which put Christopher Reeve in a wheelchair (rotational fall)

that's either a massive horse or she is very petite indeed ive never seen a horse rider (in public) wear protection other than a helmet I did imagine there must be some sort of protection for competition ive seen a few horses get spooked by road vehicles (motorbikes come to mind) and seen them chuck off there riders with no real protection and its a long way down

I spent 11 years doing 3 day eventing and had my fair share of falls both in competition and out for a hack, and falling off a horse from a jump bloody hurts.

As for not seeing the protection,  that doesn't mean that it's not there,  there are a number of options that can't be seen under a decent jacket.

Mind you me and Sara have already agreed that if the kids are willing to stick to riding,  be it on horse back or motorcycle then we will look at taking it further, but at the moment we are still not too sure about spaghetti.

I've always said that I'd support my girls in any hobby they decided to do (within reason). So if it is bikes they want then I'll support them and ensure they are as safe as possible, however it's not something I'd encourage. Thankfully as my eldest has been around bikes all her life she now hates  them, and says racing is 'boring' (her words).  She does love to watch the sidecars - but far more interested in princesses

Yes, you are right, spending stupid money on cots and pram systems which they are in and out of in a few months makes little sense. I sold my CBX750 back in 1990 (for what would be £4-4.5k in todays money) to buy all that integrated baby care shit. The money was gone in an instant, it was mostly worn out by the time we had the 2nd baby 2 1/2 years later, and it took me another 10 years to get another bike. If your missus is giving up work until the baby goes to school, you will be living the Tesco's value life for the next 5 years. You need every penny you can hang onto when the car needs work for the MOT, or other big bills come in.

As we were looking after my now 4 year old grandaughter ever weekend overnight from a month old, we had to make a nursery up, and effectively double up on all the baby care stuff her mum has got. You can do it just as well 2nd hand, and there is some excellent stuff out there. You rarely find the keep up with the jonses mentality with people expecting their 2nd kid. They make do.

Before you start buying bike gear and planning the baby's future on track I would say wait until the miracle is complete and you hold in your hands a hopefully happy healthy baby.

When that moment comes the whole of the universe will seem very insignificant (including this bike forum).

Never take for granted how lucky you are to create a life, it's very insulting to read how matter of fact you and your partner are and how she is disappointed in what she will have.

I hope all goes well for the rest of the pregnancy and your child and partner have no complications.

The more you post about your misses the more I think she's a selfish bitch, there are a lot of women out there who have gone through hell and back and never been or ever will hold their own child in their arms.

On another note I have 3 children (all grown) 2 boys, 1 girl, only my daughter was interested in learning to ride, I now have a 2yr old granddaughter and another due any day now, if they are interested I will teach & nurture a love of riding bikes, if they don't who cares as long as they are happy, there are some dam good women riders out there, sadly I doubt you'll see them race against Rossi or his playmates, women lack that little screw that's lose lol
