Afternoon all,

I ride a 2002 R1 all year round for my 20ish miles each way.
Went in for an MOT last week and fella told me the Exup valve has seized. Not sure when this happened but I've been riding around for a while and not noticed any issues. Power still there low down and top end. He siad he loosened it off and I shouldn't have any issues - I use Motorcycle Pit Stop in Letchworth, old SBT Sandy.
I'm no racer and I'm not pushing too hard on my commutes but I do give her a good blast now and again.

So my question is will I notice any difference? and what does it actually do?

Anyone on here removed the exup valve? Full system the way to go.

Cheers

A quick google search will tell you all you need to know about an EXUP valve....... but more importantly, being fuel injected, did the 2002 R1 have an EXUP valve?

Tiiimmmaaayyyy

Most modern bikes have some kind of exhaust valve, it just increases back pressure at lower revs and produces better low-mid range and helps with fuelling. I don't see the relevance of whether it's FI or not?

the relevance is..... you shirty twat.... that I haven't got a single clue what the fuck I'm talking about and was merely trying to pretend that I have.

you could have gone along with it.

wanker.

actually.....no..... thinking about it..... FI has the capability to regulate fuel and air at any given rev, and as an EXUP valve forces waste fuel back in to the chamber, presumably FI would only send the amount of fuel required.

so there

fuck you all

In what order?

Don't think this was ever decided, pretty sure some people are getting two goes due to the changeable nature of "The List".

it was administered on a first come first cum basis...... hardly surprising that many cut back in the queue for seconds, and thirds.....

Cheers guys, I knew it would go off on a tangent but I'm suitably impressed.

I have goolged EXUP valve and lots of differing stories. It would be nice to know if anyone here has had similar issues and what have then done to get around it/bodge.
Mechanic has loosed the valve off so it's open, I might loose a bit of low down torque but am I'm not racing out or corners etc I should be ok.

Alzo, good find thank you. I will read up.
Lord....I was impressed....for a while.
