buying a bike with just the V5C?!?!?!? URGENT!!!!!!!!!!

bike im in the process of buying only has the v5c as owners had it couple of weeks  what are the doos and don'ts etc am I setting my self up for a fall I need all the legal bits and bobs?

he said because he's only had it for 2 weeks is selling it due to not realising how complicated and costly it is to pass your test now and having to get it restricted to meet regs etc and so forth

so he's waiting for the proper V5 to come back? In that case if you want the bike arrange to buy buy it but only once him has the V5 in his name, it's normally pretty quick to be issued nowadays, in both cases when I have bought a vehicle in the last 12 months (1 car 1 bike) Ihave had the V5 inside 2 weeks. This assumes the seller sent the paperwork off  imediately after the sale.

Does he have a receipt for the bike with the previous sellers address etc, if so you could contact the previous owner to check details etc.

I'm not sure are you saying I would have no legal comback id be planning to see idea and get a reciept from him etc he may have other paperwork in not sure , ha the last few bikes ive had the log book arrived in closer to 6

it wasn't exactly an answer I was hoping some one would know the legality of it I would be planning to get a copy of his driving licence , and written and signed receipt and hes also got a recept hpi check for it , all the keys etc , ive sold a bike without the v5 before and just forwarded it on but ive never bought like this

just spoken to the dvla , and they explained the process and said aslong as it has the new keepers supplement it should be fine , but to make sure I id him and get a receipt,,, I would then have to go to the post office

im going to speak to the guys mum when I pick it up as they wouldn't normally lie for there son to such a degree
