If a shop provides the chance to try on, compare, feel the material, get advice etc, then 'thank' them by paying the extra premium.  Otherwise they won't be there when you want them later.  I've had discounts /small things for free because they recognise my face as a previous customer who will make the effort to shop there rather than just use the internet

to be fair its normally bike parts I get online I have had discounts from my local shops on this , even had things at cost......
