Maybe the one I rode was a turd but it was surprisingly gutless below 6k, took off after but wasn't for me.

I actually like the size though,

I'm thinking possibly an RSV falco good bikes and well in budget

So my insurance paid out...yay

So budget and expectations have risen

Thinking KTM SMT or Tiger 1050.

Would love to hear from anyone who has owned/ridden these. I'm keen on them both as they seem to be the best compromise of practical, fun and capable of a trackday if I fancy it.

I've test ridden both of them and there both brilliant bikes and definitely both get the business done but the KTM does it better imo

Swapped to a '07 Tiger 1050 back in April - I certainly don't regret it.
I only do road riding and it does everything I could ever want. The triple engine is lovely, a proper Arrow can is a must to get the full fruity sound. If you do so get the ECU mapped, stop by a Dealer and they'll do it for £20 there and then.

The first gen 1050's had projector headlamps which I've heard can be a bit crap, however mine is fitted with HIDs from a previous owner, nothing back to say about them though, fantastic clarity at night.

Factory fitted heated grips on some models, nice and tidy, no messy wires, just a shame the switch for them is on a rocker switch by the dash, not easy to reach on the move.

Super comfy and it can hustle along nicely - I don't find the long forks a problem, the dive under breaking not as drastic as I expected. over 200 mile tank range on the motorway but general road riding and larking about I get 170 ish. With standard exhaust and engine map you'd get more.

Plenty of other bikes that would do the same job but if you want a change from jap fours then a triple is epic.

I enjoyed the Explorer too...but the Tiger Sport ticked all the boxes for me.
