Are Sportsbikes becoming extinct.

Well....are they...at the NECC recently I glanced at the Sportsbikes...but that was it...now I accept my age and taste has an influence...but I also think part of it you can get some great performance from other classes. The BMW XR for example is as near as dammit Sportsbike quick...so it's not as if we're being short-changed in performance.
Also the Cafe racer type style is growing at a rate. I definitely see the writing on the wall for the Sportsbike scene.

I think its a demographic thing, maybe coupled with roads just being a shit place to be on a 200hp missile.  I can't remember the last sportsbike that excited me to the point where I was doing sums to work out if I could afford one.

I rode an BMW S1000RR and it was torture...I cannot believe I suffered that position for so long...so for me it's no longer up for consideration. I think the Adventure class and the Naked class have brought a buzz back to Motorcycling.

I had a couple of hours on an S1000RR while my GS was being serviced.

Thought it was amazingly easy and comfortable for a sportsbike, actually.

Much more comfortable than a B1H.

Could probably commute on it, although the consumables would be expensive.

Bloody, ridiculously, fast though.

Still quite fancy one before I plod off into my dotage.

I ran away from sportbikes years ago. Supermoto style bikes seem to fit the bumpy roads I ride. Long suspension travel and superb brakes.

Just cant bend my legs far enough to get my feet on the footrest, when riding a sportsbike.

There is nothing more enjoyable than nailing a 200bhp superbike on a twisty road, riding a 60bhp single.

I take your point, but no I don't think they will become extinct.

If I wasn't riding 80 miles each day Id still Probably be on a Sportsbike. But The Tigers, KTM SMT, GS, BMW XR etc... are all so much closer in terms of performance and the quality of suspension, brakes etc... That its not so clear cut anymore.

There's nothing more annoying than getting your corner speed decimated and your lines ruined by the knob who decides to take his supermoto on a trackday either.

people will still want to ride the sports bikes they see their idols riding, i don't see that ever changing
but it is very much an age thing, the mind is willing... but the body is less so
I must admit I am amazed that how I ever did the miles I did on my sports bikes now I have the smt
its a bit of a revelation, fun, performance practicality and comfort who'd have thunk it!
that said i still love my panigale and have no intention of parting with it.. just yet

I know the feeling Moz. Those pesky sportbikes getting in the way on the twisties.

The price of bikes nowadays is shocking. The younger generation may want to buy sportsbikes but can't afford new ones.Some can, some get HP or buy an older bike.  The older generations have done the sportsbikes , (some still buy them) and have moved on to nakeds or explorer or cafe racer types. There has always been choices of bikes it's just at different times in our life we like different things. I think we would all like a few different types of bikes in the garage to choose from, depending on the mood and the journey.

I don't know that bikes are that shockingly expensive now compared with what they used to be.

I think I paid about £7k for my B1H new in 2003.

Inflation adjusted to today, that's about £10k.

Pretty sure I paid 6k for my B1. 2016 one is 9k. I paid 5.5k for my ZRX in 2006. Just bought a Z1000sx at 9.5K. I wish my wages had went up at the same rate.
