Are Sportsbikes becoming extinct.

I don't suppose they're becoming extinct because people are still buying them...... more like they're becoming irrelevant.

Gone are the days of riding up the Cat & Fiddle on something 600cc plus and feeling like you kicked its head in........ must be a thoroughly underwhelming experience scaring the shit out of yourself and knowing you just tickled the throttle the whole way.

I wouldn't know though, the newest sportsbike I've ridden on the road was a K1 Gixer thou..... and I didn't keep it long for that exact reason.....

Not becoming extinct, we're just all getting older    When i first came on this site most people weren't married, young (well some of us were), no kids and more disposable income than they knew what to do with (well that's how it felt). I'd never had been seen dead on a 'sit up bike' wearing textiles, anything waterproof or heated, never wear a clear visor, or anything remotely uncool - I've now become everything i put my nose up     

I suspect if you went to a 'cooler forum' (I bet forums are now decidedly uncool), the 'younger' generation are all be riding R1s, Fireblades and Gixers - not a naked, tourer or a set of heated grips in site

I could large it and tell you the story of when I got sideswiped by a car on my EXUP thou (whilst racing a Ferrari) and woke up in the ambulance with my knee bent completely the wrong way and my toes were in front of my face...... or the time I crashed on the cat & fiddle whilst racing some geezer and completely lost the ball of my foot...... I've got loads, and the scars to prove!!

There is something else no one has mentioned....

There is nothing better that riding past someone on a Superbike on a "sit up and beg bike" like they are standing still. Plus the modern Adventure sports and naked stuff is fast enough and handles well enough to do exactly that.

At the end of the day its still about the person riding it ;-)

I ran away from sportbikes years ago. Supermoto style bikes seem to fit the bumpy roads I ride. Long suspension travel and superb brakes.

Just cant bend my legs far enough to get my feet on the footrest, when riding a sportsbike.

There is nothing more enjoyable than nailing a 200bhp superbike on a twisty road, riding a 60bhp single.
