All it needs is a tail tidy and a new can.

There are rumours circulating on the KTM forums that the twin Akky on the prototype "Beast" will be available as a power part - £2500

Looks great, but £14k is bordering on insanity.

I'm not sure it is.  Brand new engine dev costs, top of the range suspension and brakes, full electronic aids suite, lightweight wheels etc etc.

I think you need to get real DeeDub.  Bikes, along with everything else are just getting more expensive.  You wouldn't expect to pay Mk 1 Escort money for a new Focus these days so why the same feeling towards the bikes??  The new Superduke R is as cutting edge as it gets.

I think it looks great...

It's not about getting real, it's about waking up and realising bikes are getting faster and more sophisticated while our roads get slower and more heavily policed.  Is this really going to be £8000 'better' than a three year old Superduke or is it just akin to a public ego-wank?

MOzZereLLa

All fair points but I can't understand your link between bikes getting more expensive and heavily policed roads??? It reads like you think bikers are being ripped off with the costs of brand new bikes. Are you suggesting if tech and power mirrored the roads they will be ridden on and were significantly de-tuned (high performance not required cos you can't use it) then new bikes would be cheaper to buy?? You are getting old and boring mate ;)

There is certain irony that Sportsbike have circa 190 bhp with expensive Tech to stop it killing the rider...so from that  there is a case for less is more power wise...I rode with a group with S1000rr's...and my 133bhp Speed Triple held its own up to the point where your liberty would be in question.

and the Street wasn't half doing bad with 'just' 105BHP either  ;) and I enjoyed every minute of it which is what biking is all about  :azn:

What I meant is I just don't see the point of spunking £14K on a bike that is a technical performance marvel, when a bike that you can buy for less than half the price will do everything you can get away with doing on a British road these days.  Cost versus reward ratio seems to be getting bigger and bigger!

As for being ripped off, it wouldn't surprise me if the the UK list price isn't substantially higher than elsewhere.  Remember the mid-90's Grey Import days?

It is £14k apparently............

That changes things  :(

I see your point, accept the irony but will say that, being expensive for what it is and not being able to afford it are two totally different things.
