something to think about:

what is the minimum number of TYPES of bike that you need to have owned in order to call yourself a "proper" biker?

2?
3??
10???

and what types?

sports?
naked?
supermoto?
moto-x?

no right answer, just something to discuss....

It isn't a number, it is a mindset ;)

1 - there are people who have done more on 1 bike than most "bikers"
e.g. Ted Simon spent 4 years in the 70's going round the world on a Triumph Tiger, Bernard Smith and his blind companion Cathy who went round the world doing 25,000 miles in the process
Dragging yer uber sports bike out just on sunny Sundays kind of looks pathetic in comparison
IMHO

If you ride a bike, think like a biker, own a bike then it sort of makes you a biker I think. Bikes owned, years riding, skill counting sort of old skool playground I'm better than you bollocks.

clipper makes a valid point but I have never thought Ted Simon was about the bike as much as the journey.

Its more about what you do with them for sure.

Things still on my to do list - race / tour / restore & ride a classic / proper off roading

Maybe you are one when even the shite performance, handling and brakes of a Harley is sufficient to get you out there.

My Boss in Scotland said I was a biker because I eat, sleep, breath bikes, pretty much everything I do is about bikes & he was a motorcyclist because to him bikes are just a tool for fun or work.

Life is the stuff that happens to you while you're making other plans.

Aren't you a biker by virtue of the fact that you both own and ride....... A bike?

By contrast, if you own a house and paint the walls, are you a decorator?

No you are an artist

Biking is a mindset.

How many times will you go out either on your own or with mates for a blast in your car or cars.......

But you do on your bike....... Why cos it's in the blood ...... Cos you are a biker.... And every ride is a learning experience, the better you become the more fun biking becomes.

Also there is the camaraderie if you are stopped on the side of the road some other biker will check you are ok........ You don't get that in cars

I think what makes you a biker is too varied to just pigeon hole. If you ride all year it doesn't make you more of a biker than someone who only rides when the weathers gd. It just means you have differing requirements for your biking fix. If you only green lane, only do track days, ride a Harley, ride a classic bike or any combination of the afore mentioned, the fact you ride a bike makes you a biker.
