The latest Panigale engine is more inline four like in character to be fair...not the short shifting you had to do on previous Ducatis such as the 999 or the 1098.
Each to their own though.  :azn:

For everyday riding you cannot beat a Triple engine...the pick up...the overrun...all music to the ears...BMW have done a great job on the S1000r engine...it pulls from anywhere and in any gear...had my love hate love relationship with this bike...but never once faulted the engine...V Twins bore me...and the big bang engine is designed to feel and act like a V Twin...they're fast without doubt...but just not what I want.

reduce the engine braking on a 4c8 and the overrun is addictive and has you rolling off and every opportunity... its a sexual experience (even with decat and block off plates)
the side effect of reducing the engine braking, along with using the yec throttle map..pickup is more instance and returning some of the connection between the throttle and the rear wheel.. something the ycc t lost slightly over the 4th gen r1
i run a 10-20% reduction..  (most people don't play with engine braking)

the 4c8 as standard has a lack of low range grunt and needs to be rev'd..
(remembering this lack of power is still a litre bike which easily pushes out 175 rwbhp with simple bolt on mods)

both the 4c8 and 14b were the heaviest in class.. both benefit from some lightweight parts ... decat goes some way to sort this
lack of gear indicator as standard on the 4c8 was an oversight

Quote from: DWI can see why people brough up on 4cyl engines with linear, sewing machine power curves dont get twins.

that'll be me

Quote from: flyBoyMarmite looks or Marmite engine?

the looks i could live with (they grow on you).. the engine was good..(although the clutch when cold is grabby, cct failures common, gearbox not particularly slick.. excessive drinking habit (fuel)...) ...
the connection to the rear wheel and being able to feel the amount of grip was amazing .. 14b engine in a 4c8 chassis .. that could of worked

i don't think the numb feeling was down to the engine... it was the sum of the parts (forks were a downgrade..and too soft.. 14b  6 bags of sugar heavier than the 4c8 and less outright bhp)

the feel of the overall 14b package is marmite ... you'll love it .. or hate it  .. just didn't excite me

the 4c8 needs reving ... a side by side rollon 3rd/4th gear rollon against a 09 blade from 4000rpm ...
the blade would slowly pull away..
do the same at the r1's preferred revs and the r1 4c8 kicks arse  :moto:

mark, you need to get one soon before the season starts and price rises kick in

20 days and counting to my first trackday of the year  :moto:

Clutch grab was due to the position of it. The 2015 banger does not do it

It was only the first pull away of the day, you knew it was coming so it didn't really bother me.
Significantly faster than you.....

and the 14b 09-14 is the same as the 2015 that mark is considering ? how ?
there is a well documented fix... had nothing to do with the position of it ? whatever that means ?

is was easily fixable by replacing some clutch internals
still had "lurching" even when warm in my experience .. just worse when cold

mark owes it to the forum to try both and post up his thoughts

the 14b, he'll either love it or hate it

Position meaning how high up it was in the engine - lacked lubrication when very cold was my understanding.

Again, never suffered it after the first couple of uses at the start of the day.

The 2015 engine was a totally new one. The 2015 R1 is not the 14B (or even a 14BE as the TC version was designated). It is the one I have.
Significantly faster than you.....

Personally speaking I wouldn't have a modern 600 sportsbike if they were giving them away free.

how come DW?

David W

I think they've been epic in their shitness for ten years.  Revvy buzzboxes with build quality that 1980's Trabant's would have been ashamed of.  The motorcycling equivalent of a disposable razor.

The R6 is a case in point...looks immense...but power is flat as a witches tit until 10,000rpm...think Yamaha RD350...fun for a while then you tire of it. Great Trackbike...not so good on the road.
