To be fair there's wasn't much to choose between them.................only better looks, engine, chassis and electronics...............it was close..............
I know...that's why I bought it. 😊

Oh yeah - the Aprilia kicks the Beemers arse.

Plus it's got an engine with a bit of character (when it works) ;)
Twat. 😉

The Forums are awash with the debate which is best...and it's simple...it's the one you like and want. Troubled beginnings with the Beemer...long forgotten...because now I don't believe there is a better bike out there for me.

I realise me on any bike is ridiculous due to my size but

I hope the guy in the picture is about 8 foot tall cause that looks teeny!

nope he's not, sat on one at the bike show, they are tiny.

Have you checked out the new Tuono 1100's?

Lovely bike but make sure you have a dealer close by - reliability and parts supply worse than MV.

The clutch failed on the RSV RF during the MCN test recently...

Sorry Gobert ;)

I've done my research - I've been on one of the better Aprilia forums for a while now. The V4 motor has become a lot more reliable over the past few years and the 1100 motor is less stressed than the thou units in the RSV's. The 1100 Factory has been out for nearly 12 months so I've got a decent idea on what to expect.

I've ordered mine through A+D's as they are the nearest dealer but I'm keeping the ZZR14 so I won't be without a bike whatever happens. Not sure I'd have one as an only bike though but saying that MV's have a much worse reputation. Press / demo bikes get abused so that doesn't concern me either.

I've always been baffled to hear same numerous mates say "oh the Ducati / Aprilia forum says they are 'much better now' or 'don't suffer from XYZ like they used to".

What I've learned is that much of the bike specific forum chat is from blinkered fans of the Italian steeds and wouldn't admit a problem if it showed up every day... like a bunch of blokes running round giving everyone herpes on the basis that it doesn't really bother them that much. Or they ride the things to the end of the drive once a week to clean them in front of the neighbours so haven't a clue on the problems anyway. In my experience of those with Italian bikes they use all the time, all of the problems that were denied or downplayed on the forums are true, constant and infuriating!

Secondly, and most baffling in this day and age, is that the standard that should be required of motorcycling engineering is there as clear as day and has been for bloody ages when you look at the Jap bikes (I'll accept that isn't always the case in terms of style or even innovation). To me it's inexcusable that Ducati and Aprilia in particular can charge the money that they do for their bikes and still miss that standard, sometimes by a mile! Then, when they miss the standard there isn't a dealer or a part supplier to be seen! I don't know how people put up with it!

All of that said.... all of the people I've been around to have formed this opinion still have Italian bikes and still rate them massively despite acknowledging their faults. There has got to be something bloody special about them for the above to count for nothing and for them to stick with them. I just don't know how people put up with it.

Who else do you listern to then? People with no experiance of the make, biased owners of other bikes or people that actually own and ride them. I know people who own RSV V4's, I know people who race them so I'll well aware of their issues and how they have improved over the last few years. I don't think I'm the stereo typical italian exotica owner either.........this bike will be used and tracked.

Not trying to be funny here but how much actual first hand experiance of recent model V4 Aprilia's have you got?

I'm channeling Moz a bit here but it's my £15k and I'll buy what I f**king want.............. :)

Every car and bike thread is the same.
Loads of people who know someone that had loads of problems....

I don't think anyone would suggest anything else...your money...your choice...and I'm sure you are happy with your choice having parted with £15k. No bike is perfect...I've learned to live with some quirks BMW built in to the S1000R...
When do you get it?

Having read thru a few answers-
Hadn't looked at a Tuono but having now done that, I won't be looking any further. Simply don't like the look of them.
I really like the whole look/stance of the MV and I'm off to my local dealers to see what they've got and perhaps have a sit on. (Can't test ride due to chocolate shoulder at rugby). Appreciate the concerns about reliability but if the bike looks well 'ard on the side of the road whilst waiting for recovery, that's a risk I'm prepared to endure.

Sorry G'Bert,  it is your £15k to spend on whatever you bloody like.... I'd give you a lift to the dealership myself.

I actually deleted a whole line from my post where I set out I know nothing about the RSV V4 and that I my post wasn't meant to be an attempt to undermine your choice, at all. My post was generalised not directed towards your choice but your choice is kind of what I meant by the last part of what I said, that many know the actual issues and favour them regardless. I'm obviously missing a trick because people bloody love them, but I can't get over the thought of buying something you know to have those issues.... it would ruin the whole experience for me.

My experience relates to a handful of riders who all use their bikes properly and love Italian bikes. However, whenever they have bought a new one they have always gone through the same process of being told by the forums that 'XYZ is fine' and 'they don't do that anymore' and it's always bollocks..... they have all been as temperamental as the know nothings (me) have told them they will be.

It seems like a petty point, but one memory that always comes back to me was riding an RSV Mille (I think, it was an RSV thou of some sort) through town, when we stopped I said to my mate "your back brake needs adjusting".... his answer was that the engine boils the brake fluid apparently and the back brake doesn't work. who the fuck let it leave the factory like that?? Not that any of those faults mattered when it got valued (insurance write off) because the Odometer would re-set the mileage back to 0 every time the battery died.... which was regularly. I just couldn't live with that sort of feeling with a bike, constantly thinking "well what else have they fucked up?".

Did you look at the 1000's or 1100's?...........I wouldn't have bought the 1000.....

1100's. Think they just look too much like a sports bike for me but can see why they'd appeal to others.
