They are Mazda MX5s in prettier dresses.

Japanese engneering and Italian styling?
What's not to love about that combination?

It's an opinion...because to my eyes the MX5 looks prettier than the Fiat...fact.  ;)

Fuck me. Do I have to spell it out?

The new Fiat Spider is built in collaboration with Mazda. Essentially, it's an MX5 with a slightly different engine, interior and bodyshell.

The chassis's are identical (or so I read).

What one thinks about its esthetic appeal is inconsequential.
