appreciate the feedback fellas..

mind made up..

looks good in blue, red or the red/white classic colours in my mind.. the grey and black i've done before.. deffo some nice carbon end cans and leave the rest standard then...

right time to wait for jan when people's credit card bills are due and swoop in for the kill..

the last of the proper r1 screamers, get the 5th gen 4c8
(yes, i am bias  :moto:)

decat is a must to get rid of some heat.. your right leg and pillon's arse will thank you in summer
(and also a big reduction in weight.. which can't be a bad think)

standard cans are not bad looking and not particular heavy tbf, replacing just the internals is popular ..
but personally.. slash cut akropovic is the way forward

4c8 has a slipper clutch as standard (only the 06 r1'sp' had a slipper previously)
so if your going to visit the track the 4c8 is the better option (or your'll want to get an aftermarket slipper for the earlier model)

the power increase on the 4c8 over the 04-06 is noticeable

4c8's don't suffer the 'dogs' issue that 98-03 had when being abused (requiring 2nd and 6th replacing)

as standard the engine is a little flat until 10,000rpm and then world goes backwards very quickly
however, after a flashtune the engine comes alive and transforms the power delivery
(give me a shout if you go for a 4c8, i'll pop over with my ecu so you can try, and if you like it ... flash your ecu)

the 6 pot 130mm calipers limit fork and brake upgrade options..  master cylinders are brembo as standard.. (many people upgrading to RCS cylinders fit the wrong master cylinder making the brakes feel wooden) .. oem brakes are nice and progressive with plenty of power.. (a little too progressive/soft)

aftermarket bits and pieces for the 4c8 are generally more expensive then other r1 models

i don't ride my 4c8 very often.. but when i do i love it
(as you know my trackbike is a gsxr1000k5 of coxy heritage for comparison)

www.yamahar.co.uk is a good uk site for r1 banter and info

Which one though. The older 4 valve 4 piston model or the newer 5 valve, 6 piston model?
Significantly faster than you.....

Alzo

The 4 valve engine superseded the 5 valve engine Moz...or am I reading your post wrong??

always up for a cuppa
r1 won't be be out to play until at least may next year though

whoopee

I had an 06 in speedblock anniversary colours - I utterly loved that bike & regret selling it more than most bikes I've owned.

LewisBeGoog

It was my first choice when I was looking for the same vintage thou a few months back. Had a test ride on one and it felt great

Only plumped for the blade because it came up at the right price and had loads of tasty bits on it.

m6rk

right budget has been upped and want a 4c8 model...

but i'm being a girl and can't decide on colour...

I liked peeeeej's colour scheme but they seem very hard to find.. there is a similar one with a red seat which I'm not too keen on.. black looks nice but a bit boring.. looks nice in the blue too.. seems I can get one on a private sale for 5k which is kinda the max I was looking at...

decisions decisions...

Alzo

I had a Blue one and I thought it looked great.
