Got a problem with the deauville wouldn't fire yesterday I put it down to being the cold , put battery on charge as I drained it trying to start , fully charged battery and even colder outside and much to my surprise the bike fires without much problem which made me wonder , so I ride it to work everythings fine leaving work it really struggled to start but it did riding home seemed fine heated grips on etc I get closer to home and I notice when I indicate the rev counter was going up 1k insync with the indicator , I get home after noticing the instruments are dimmer than usual ,then it cuts out right outside the house , then won't start ,battery flat as a pancake , starter wouldn't even click , now am I right in assuming it's the alternator?

I'd start with testing the reg/rectifier, check and see if it is putting out an increased voltage and go from there.

Battery is probably fooked, cold kills em, as above do check the reg.rectifier as Hondas are known for dodgy ones.

I know when the reg rec goes it often takes the battery with it , does it also kill the alternator?  Don't think the battery is old looks newish it's a yuasa , need to see if the thing is charging , at least the reg is only a few quid to replace

If the reg/rec is fooked it can do a lot of damage to a lot of the electrics, but first check is the battery, the look of the battery means fook all.  Bike batteries as very small to keep the weight down and as they are lead acid they don't take kindly to being fully discharged, Yuasa is a good make but they all fail in the end.

Had a 3 month old bike and the battery gave in...because it looks new means nothing. Check all aforementioned...and check nothing is drawing on the battery when your bikes stationery...ie Heated grips.

I think Halfords will do a free battery check for you if you ride over

"Bike starting problems"... like looking at other bikes' birds, knocking over bigger bikes' pints, etc?

New regulator has turned up went to take battery out to charge it , it's swollen and the top of it is half off and it won't charge , now do you think the battery has just gone and the regulator is fine? If I put another battery in it and the regulator is fucked will it then fry that battery?

You have a new regulator, so fit that and a new battery and all should be well.

I'll also point out that right at the start of this thread I suggested the battery was PROBABLY fucked but check the reg/rec anyway as they are a known weak point on Hondas. I wasn't the only one so when you come on here and ask for advice please read it, you never know you may get the correct answer as you did in this case by the sounds of it.

Can't believe it's taken you nearly 3 weeks to get to this point  ;)

It's because of my hours , not had time to actually do it , I'll change the reg it's just a pain to get too

Could you not just buy the right Honda one and know it fits?
